Gordon Ramsey discovers factory farming

It's bizarre that this was such a revelation to someone with his experience in the culinary industry. He seems genuinely aghast, though, and doesn't try to brush it off. In fact, he expresses new appreciation for vegetarians and vegans.

It would be great if someone like Ramsey would take just the step of explicitly rejecting factory farming and counseling other chefs and restaurant owners to refuse to make use of its "products" and to use meat from animals who haven't been tortured in these establishments. Not ideal, but enormously helpful.

  2. I am surprised he only said 1 curse word. I watch all of his shows. It will be interesting to see if he speaks more about humanly raised animals and against factory farming. I wish you had shown him the "glass walls" video w Paul McCartney. That is horrific and a huge wake up call. After seeing that there would be a good chance that he be a spokesperson for the animals.

  3. I am SO glad he opened up to seeing what really goes on there. I am one of those "people" that watched the videos and had NO idea of what really went on. I am happy to report I am meat free for 3 years and I will never consume meat again. "Meet your Meat" is the most horrific video I have ever seen. Life changing for me!

  4. this is a brave lady who did this and Gordon showed courage for viewing it. We need more people like this lady we have enough vegan cook books and mock products already.

  5. And while you're at it, Gord, read "Slaughterhouse" by Gail Eisnitz and invest 12 minutes to view "Farm to Fridge" from Mercy for Animals and that will help you to realize more fully the extent of the cancer and poison that is factory farming. It is evil and it must be stopped.

  6. Wonderful to see that this advocate is showing someone with his clout in the food industry a video like this! People need to see what is done to these poor, helpless animals so they will open their eyes to the inhumane treatment they must endure daily. It is very difficult to claim innocence once you've seen what goes on in these places. With any luck, and perhaps some prayers, he will promote vegan/vegetarian lifestyles more instead of "knocking" them as he said he had done previously.

  7. We Vegans don't miss out on any flavours at all! In fact it's the total opposite! Our taste buds change for the better for example when someone quits smoking everything tastes better. Same applies to us vegans. We don't ever miss the meat flavours, we think it's very disgusting because we see it as flesh and not meat. I hope Chef Ramsey becomes more aware of the cruelty and learns more about the health aspects of eating meat. This would be a great place to start http://www.tcolincampbell.org/

  8. Gordon Ramsay has an enormous amount of clout in both the culinary and reality entertainment industries. As such his voice would add hugely for the mega meat industry to reform themselves (or preferably, close down completely), in response to boycotts from informed restauranteurs. I'm a Ramsay fan - I use his recipes - but of course no longer the meat recipes, since we cannot condone the cruelty - and neither the health aspects of the meat industry.

I would love to see him endorsing meat free cooking. Somebody point him at Slaughterhouse by Gail Eisnitz!

  9. I hope somebody told him why the sows bite the bars - and why the tails are cut off (without anaesthetic) and ears cut. And the hormones - don't forget the ractopamine...

here's our metamorphosis into meat free living :
